One of the best examples is in the early 1950's rhinestones were coated with an iridescent coating or treatment. These stones are called aurora borealis. as shown in this pretty example of a pin with the iridescent finish. The coating causes the stones to have an unique appearance of different colors. These are some of the most beautiful stones and are the favorites of many collectors.
If the stone is an aurora boralis stone, it was most likely made in the 1950's.
The finish reflects light , so depending on the light and angle of the lights reflection, the stone may look blue, pink or even amber.
